{welcome}
In sixth grade English, students will build on prior knowledge of language arts. We will be reviewing and studying the parts of speech and the mechanics of writing. Students will be taking the seventh grade writing exam next year, and therefore, writing will be a large component to this class. We will be writing on a daily basis in a journal, and also doing independent writing assignments throughout the year. It is my goal to create a writer in every student.

Class Expectations

Students are expected to adhere to the Student Code of Conduct as well as these classroom rules:

"5 Bs"

1. Be Prompt

2. Be Prepared

3. Be Productive

4. Be Polite

5. Be POSTITIVE!

It has been my belief that students will rise to the standards and expectations set for them by their teachers and parents. As a result, I have set high expectations for my students.

1.  All students should enter the room quietly, find their seat, sharpen their pencil, fill in their planner with the SE, get their spiral notebook and be ready for the warm-up and lesson as soon as the tardy bell rings.

2.  All students will be required to use a spiral notebook to complete their daily warm-ups.  Warm-ups will be dated and completed daily.  Spirals will be kept in the classroom and should never be taken home or placed in students' locker.  I will have a spot in the classroom for the student spirals/composition notebooks.

3.  I expect all of my students to share their writing with the class occasionally.  Sometimes sharing will be optional, but most of the time it will be required as part of their grade.

4.  Rough drafts will be written in pencil and final copies will be written IN CURSIVE and in pen. I will give a grade for the rough draft and another grade for the final copy. All copies of papers written this year will be filed in a folder and kept in the classroom.

5.  Students will be dismissed by the teacher and not the bell at the end of the period.
