Christmas came early for many EM-S ISD employees last week as the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD Education Foundation went from campus to campus delivering larger than life checks. The awards are the result of a year's worth of fund-raising by the Education Foundation and some excellent grant and scholarship applications by our employees.
Almost $25,000 was delivered in the form of innovative teaching grants and educator scholarships. The grants ranged from providing more hands-on opportunities in math and science to producing elementary school musicals and family literacy nights. Educator scholarships provide an opportunity for employees to sharpen their skills by doing things such as working towards their first degree or working towards a higher degree.
"This is the best day of the year for the Education Foundation. We get to go to the schools and see the excitement we bring to many of the district's employees and know the positive outcome it will have on our students." said Sarah Hollenstein, Education Foundation board member. "We get to see first hand why we work to raise funds all year."
This year the grants and scholarships were presented by Education Foundation board members Sarah Hollenstein, Joyce Erwin, Mollie Newcom and Cheri Phillips; EM-S ISD board members Donna Webb and Paige Ring and EM-S ISD representatives Superintendent Cole Pugh, Ed.D., Director of Communications Kristin Courtney and Communications Specialist Tammy Castleberry.
