Dear future Parents and Students,As the old year ends and summer approaches, I've been doing much thinking about the use of cell phones in my classroom. As a general rule, I don't have a lot of use for them in the classroom. I find that students still don't have the responsibility necessary to keep their phones out of their hands. They are told to put them away, but magically, the phones find their way out. As a whole, cell phones are a distraction. Students are more interested in who's texting, snapchatting, and tweeting them than the assignment they are completing. As their teacher, I need their undivided attention in the classroom. Therefore, I am asking that all students place their cell phones in their locker BEFORE coming to my class. They can check messages before school, at lunch and on their way home. Should you, as the parent, need to get in contact with them immediately, you can do it the traditional way by calling the front office at 817-847-9210. Our secretary will immediately get the message to your child. I hope that you understand that I have your child's best interest at heart. It is my hope that my students will abide by this rule. Should they not, the phone will be confiscated and taken to the office. Then, it will become the responsibility of the parent to pick up the phone. I truly want to avoid this step by asking students to place their phone in their locker BEFORE coming to class. Students and parents will be required to sign a form at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year. Thank you for your complete understanding.
