My name is Kayla Pearce.  This is my 24th year to teach science and my eleventh year on this campus but 17th in the district (1994-2000).  Prior to my current assignment as science teacher at Watson High School/Alternative Discipline Center, I taught science and coached at Wayside and Highland Middle Schools.  I have been busy teaching AP Environmental Science, aquatic science, biology, chemistry, physics, A&P, medical courses, IPC and middle school science, as well as coaching basketball, volleyball and track in other districts.  I previously taught medical sciences at the college level. I have been fortunate enough to be selected as Teacher of the Year several times and nominate for several state teaching awards.
I currently serve on the Executive Board of the Science Teachers Association of Texas.  We network with teachers all over Texas and surrounding states as well as science vendors, sponsors and educational support from across the country.  I also have the pleasure of spearheading the recycling drive for paper and household/school recyclables, used electronic devices, spent printer cartridges and obsolete computer and gaming units.  We also collect used books, audio and video media for funds.  Please feel free to contact me if you need items picked up or have any questions concerning our on-going drive.  My pride and joy is our big 100' x 50' garden in front of the ADC parking lot.  Feel free to get involved with that fabulous project (especially if you need community service hours)!!

I stay in close contact with your science teachers and  members of science organizations in order to bring you as quality an education as this environment allows.  My goals for you are to get you caught up if you're behind, keep you caught up and to help you enjoy science and take control of your education. Social skills, decision-making skills and goal-setting are also a priority so you can set yourself on a success-driven pathway to the future. Together with your parents, teachers and counselors, you can make this a successful one-time stay!!
