    Meet Mrs. Young

I am so excted to begin my eleventh year serving as Chisholm Ridge's Fine Arts instructor and directing the award winning Rockin' Wranglers Choir. It is a privilege to work with so many talented students and be part of such a supportive community at Chisholm Ridge.

My background includes a family of teachers. My mother was a teacher for over 30 years and my father was a teacher and coach for over 30 years as well.
Perhaps it was destiny since as a young child I would assemble all of my dolls together and teach school. I loved learning in school as a child and it remains one of my loves as a teacher.

I attended Abilene Christian University and received my BSEd in Elementary Education with a minor in Music Studies. I was a part of the college band and orchestra playing clarinet and bassoon. My musical experiences also included singing in the acapella choir and performing in musicals.    After graduation, I returned back to my hometown of Fort Worth and began to substitute teach which led to my first teaching position in Fort Worth ISD in 1990.  My teaching experience includes First Grade, Second Grade ESL and Fine Arts. This year is my 28th year as an educator in the public schools of Texas

    Mr. and Mrs. Young

You may hear many students call me Ms. Stringer. In  November 2014, I married and became Mrs. Young.  The students have been curious and excited to meet my husband,  Mr. James Young. He is a musician and veteran percussionist of 27 years  in both  the Victoria Symphony Orchestra and Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra . We both enjoy music and participated in High School band and school musicals together ( just a few years ago) .  Mr. Young is a private lesson teacher for percussion in some of the middle schools in our district.  He also enjoys coming to help with our choir when we need percussion assistance. Mr. Young says that he knew what he was signing up for when he asked to marry an elementary Fine Arts teacher.

A few other things  about me....

I am an  I Love Lucy and Elvis  fan.
I help in the children's ministry at The Hills Church.
I like to read books that are about historical events, people and places.
I play piano, guitar, and played clarinet and bassoon in school.
I love learning about Art and doing crafty, creative things.
I was a drum major for my high school band. Band is awesome.
We own two rescued dogs named Rio and Rascal. They are always into something and it's usually trouble.
My favorite color is red...the color of my Mustang.
I enjoy watching basketball and baseball. Go Rangers!
I enjoy many different genres of music ...but I usually listen to Hillsong, Elvis, 70's- 80's music, Jazz, Broadway and Classical.
I try to take the opportunity to enjoy live musical performances as often as possible.
I love to learn, laugh and smile with the Wranglers at Chisholm Ridge.

My goals are to have the students at Chisholm Ridge Elementary discover  a personal love and appreciation for the arts and  to develop  their skills, gifts and talents in these areas. There are curriculum guidelines provided by the state of Texas for Fine Arts which we follow in our studies. I hold a current certification with  the Feierabend Association of Music Educators for teaching both First Steps in Music and Conversational Solfege.  Each student in grades K - 5  will receive a grade for Fine Arts on their report card. I will be happy to help you with any questions concerning our district Fine Arts curriculum and grading policies.

It is an honor and privilege to share my love for Music, Art, Theater, and Dance with the students at our school.
