•  Meet the Teacher

Hi!  My name is Mrs. Abernathie, and I’m so excited to be your 2nd grade teacher this year.  This is going to be a FANTASTIC year with fun learning experiences and lots of new adventures.  I can’t wait to see what the year has in store for us. I want to get to know you, but first I want to tell you a few things about me.
I was born in Fort Worth, Texas, but grew up in Weatherford. I am the oldest of three siblings. Amber, my sister, is two years younger and my half-brother, Chad, is twelve years younger. I LOVE them! I graduated from Tarleton State University in 1997 with a degree in Elementary Education with specializations in reading and physical education.
I taught first grade for two years at Mineral Wells ISD, then moved to Fort Worth and taught fourth grade for four years in Fort Worth ISD. I then ventured out and went to Southwest Christian School where I taught sixth grade for six years. Bryson Elementary was my next stop for six years and now... I'm a Spur!  Now you know how “old” I am…this will be my 21st year teaching, and I still love it!
I’m married to a wonderful man, Coach Abernathie, who has just retired from teaching after 32 years. We have three wonderful children. Taylor, my stepdaughter, is married and has currently graduated from North Texas. Lindsey is a freshman at Stephen F. Austin, studying nursing. Trey, our son, is in eighth grade at Wayside and loves football.

I’m so excited to be your teacher this year!  We will have a fabulous year with lots of learning and laughter.
