Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD earned a "Met Standard," the highest rating from the Texas Education Agency's 2016 State District and Campus Accountability Ratings
    September 16, 2016

In a recently released report by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), all Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD schools received the Met Standard state rating and 12 of the district’s campuses earned distinctions in one or more areas, with Highland Middle School leading the district with six of seven designations. EMS ISD campuses earned a combined total of 29 academic distinctions, which is seven more than the previous year's distinctions. This is the fourth consecutive year that schools and districts in Texas have been rated under the new accountability system. Under this system, campuses/districts are assigned one rating based on meeting the target for each performance index.
    • Met Standard: Acceptable rating assigned to campuses and districts that meet the target on all indexes for which it has performance data in 2016.
    • Met Alternative Standard: Acceptable rating assigned to charter operators and alternative education campuses (AECs) that are evaluated by alternative education accountability (AEA) provisions and meet modified targets on all performance indexes for which they have performance data in 2016.
    • Improvement Required: Unacceptable rating assigned to campuses and districts that miss the target on one or more performance indexes.

Campuses and districts statewide administered state assessments throughout the 2015-16 school year. Upon completion of the testing cycle, parents received their student’s individual results while the Texas Education Agency spent the next few weeks evaluating student performance at the district and campus levels using four different performance indexes:
    • Student Achievement:  measures performance based on satisfactory student achievement combined over all subjects for all students.
    • Student Progress: measures academic improvement or growth students have made from last year to this year.
    • Closing Performance Gaps: emphasizes the academic achievement of economically disadvantaged students and the two lowest performing racial/ethnic student groups.
    • Postsecondary Readiness:  emphasizes the role of elementary and middle schools in preparing students for the rigors of high school, and the importance of earning a high school diploma that prepares students for success in college, the workforce, job training programs, or the military.

    2016 Performance Index Report

Campuses that receive an accountability rating of Met Standard are eligible to earn distinction designations in specific categories. 12 EMS ISD schools achieved that distinction. Highland Middle School received 6 out of 7 possible distinctions, earning a spot in the top 25 percent out of 40 campuses across the state for 2016. This is the third consecutive year that an EMS ISD school has ranked among top-performing schools in Texas based on distinctions earned. On the 2014 accountability ratings, Creekview Middle School and Highland Middle School both placed in the top 5.1% out of 8,574 campuses and on the 2015 accountability ratings, Saginaw High School placed in the top 4% out of 8,646 campuses across the state.
