    The Book Battle Club is for any Boswell High School student, grades 9-12, that wants to read a predetermined list of 10 books and compete against area schools in a competition.

    How Does it Work?

    Team members will read 10 books throughout the 2017-2018 school year.  The team will then take one field trip to compete against other local high schools whose team members have also read those same 10 books.  The competition is tentatively set for mid-April/May at a centralized location (most likely Southlake).  A maximum of 12 members from each school can actually compete.  Teams of 4 students at one time will face off against 4 students from an opposing school, taking turns to answer questions about the 10 books.  Points will be tallied at the end of three 10 question rounds.  Winning schools will advance to the finals in a single-elimination style competition.  At the conclusion of the competition, one school will be awarded a trophy and the championship title.

    Expectations: 

    • Read 10 predetermined books by February 8, 2017 (one book every 7-10 days)
      • Books are provided at no cost to the team members
    • Maintain a passing rate in all classes
    • Attend all practices/meetings
    • Sign up for Remind (instructions at the end of the document)
    • Sign a contract

    Consequences:

    • Grades – Failing (below a 70) a class for a six weeks’ period will result in dismissal until the 3-week mark to bring the grade up to passing
    • Two unexcused absences from meetings will result in ineligibility to participate.
      • An unexcused absence occurs when the team member does not inform a sponsor of conflict BEFORE the meeting.
      • An absence is excused if a team member communicates conflicts with such things as work, team events, another school competition, or sickness to a sponsor in a reasonable amount of time (again, BEFORE the meeting).
    • Automatic dismissal from the club will occur if:
      • You serve more than one day in SAC
      • You are placed in ADC
      • You are suspended from school
      • You drop out of school

    Dues:

    • Team shirt will serve as the uniform for competition - $10.00*
    • Transportation – one-time fee of $5.00* for bus/van
    • Lunch at competition - approximately $10.00

    Officers:

    Officers will be elected by team members for our Book Battle Club.

    ·        President – helps lead the meeting; assists sponsor in anyway necessary

    ·        Vice President – fills in when President is absent; supports the President; helps in anyway necessary

    ·        Secretary – helps with taking notes

    ·        Treasurer – helps with tracking dues
