Did you know that by the time most parents talk to their kids about drug and alcohol, most youth have already either used or been exposed to drug and alcohol use? The average age of first-time use of alcohol/drugs is 13 years old for females and 11 years old for males. By senior year, almost 70 percent of high school students will have tried alcohol, half will have taken an illegal drug, nearly 40 percent will have smoked a cigarette, and more than 20 percent will have used a prescription drug for a nonmedical purpose.
