EMS ISD names new principal of Chisholm Trail High School
Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD is pleased to announce that Walter Berringer has been named as the new principal of Chisholm Trail High School. Currently serving in Crosby ISD, Berringer brings with him more than 13 years of experience in secondary public school education with the last eight of those spent in school administration.
Berringer began his career in education as an English teacher and football coach at Denton ISD’s Crownover Middle School. In 2004, he moved to Corsicana High School in Corsicana ISD, where he continued to teach English and coach football until accepting an assistant principal position at the school in 2008. After being promoted to associate principal at Corsicana HS, Berringer relocated to Grapevine as assistant principal of Grapevine High School. He served in that role until 2012 when he was named principal of Charles R. Drew Intermediate School in Crosby ISD. Earlier this school year, he facilitated the successful transition of Drew Intermediate into a neighborhood elementary school, where he has continued as principal.
“I look forward to the opportunity to join Chisholm Trail High School,” Berringer said. “It is exciting to see the many accomplishments and hear of a culture that not only celebrates the success of students, faculty, and staff, but also supports the continuous showcase of the exemplary happenings at CTHS. I will continue to work with all stakeholders to further foster a culture of student success, collaboration, and celebration of Chisholm Trail High School and Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD.”
During his free time, Berringer enjoys spending time with his family: wife, Kamey an entrepreneur and accomplished flutist; and elementary-aged children, Morgan and Jackson.
Berringer will begin transitioning to his new role when classes resume in January and will join CTHS full time on January 9. CTHS will host a meet-and-greet event for staff, students, and families after the winter break. Please help us extend a warm welcome to the newest member of the CTHS Ranger family.

“Mr. Berringer is a firm believer that student growth and success should drive all decisions made on campus,” said Dr. Linda Parker, Deputy Superintendent. “He is dedicated to building strong relationships and continuing to build on the school culture already in place at CTHS. His commitment to academic excellence is not just something he preaches, but how he lives his daily life as a life-long learner with an unwavering focus on education and diversity. His varied school experience in all levels of education — from the high school classroom and coaching realms, to the assistant and associate principal roles, to campus principal — have prepared him to continue the important work and success at CTHS.”
Berringer received his Master of Education Administration from Tarleton State University in 2009 and his Bachelor’s in Kinesiology with an English minor from the University of North Texas in 2002. He is currently working on his Doctorate in K-12 Professional Leadership from the University of Houston. Berringer takes over this position from Dr. Dana Barnes, who was recently named as the district’s Executive Director of Educational Services.
