EMS Board recognized during state convention
The Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD School Board was recognized as one of five state Honor Board finalists on Saturday, September 24, during the annual convention hosted by Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) and Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). More than 4,000 educators, administrators, and school board members from across the state were in attendance.
"We are honored to be recognized for doing something we love," said Steven G. Newcom, Board President. "As an elected body, our goal is to always make decisions with the best interests of students and staff in mind. We work to honor the strong history and tradition of this community and district, while also building on those foundations to continue expanding and enhancing our programs to make sure students are prepared for their futures. Each year, TASA's School Board Awards program recognizes outstanding Texas school boards at the regional and state levels for their commitment and service that has made a positive impact on Texas public school students. Of this year's 15 regional winners, five were selected as state finalists based on specific criteria including support for educational performance, support for educational improvement projects, commitment to a code of ethics, and maintenance of harmonious and supportive relationships among board members. The finalists then were interviewed by a panel of Texas superintendents during the annual convention, and all 10 regional Honor Boards and five state Honor Boards were recognized on stage during the convention. The Outstanding School Board title went to Lancaster ISD.
TASA created the School Board Awards Program in 1971 to recognize school boards for dedication to student achievement and ethical service to the schoolchildren of Texas. The last time the EMS ISD Board was named a state finalist Honor Board was 1973.
"EMS ISD is fortunate to have a Board that is not only supportive and stable, but also forward-thinking and focused wholeheartedly on doing the right thing for our community," said Dr. Jim F. Chadwell, Superintendent. "No matter the challenge, the Board navigates the complexities of school finance, board policy, and enrollment growth with sound and objective leadership. Their insight and vision guides us to consider not only who we are as a district now, but also who we will become. Their collective commitment to doing what is best for children leads us through whatever challenges and opportunities we encounter. It is a privilege to serve alongside this Board and we thank them for their selfless service.”
