CTHS tennis coach receives national USTA Coach of the Year award
On Monday, November 14, the United States Tennis Association announced its 2016 No-Cut Coach All-Star Team, which includes CTHS tennis coach Leslie Crook as a USTA Coach of the Year.
Crook took home the 2016 High School All Star No-Cut Coach of the Year Award and the 2016 USTA Texas Youth Program of the Year Award for her newly introduced program, the EMS Tennis Academy.
“Coach Crook's passion and enthusiasm for the game of tennis is evident in all that she does for our athletes," said Brent Barker, EMS ISD Athletic Director. "Our athletics department would like to join the district in congratulating her, along with the EMS Tennis Academy, in receiving this honor."
In 2015, Crook began the EMS Tennis Academy, a program where young athletes can learn the game of tennis through instruction and fun-filled games. The academy provides free lessons for students in grades 2-6 from October to December and February to May, and averages more than 200 student athletes a week.
Crook also provides free training for students in grades 7-12 from September to May.
“My hope is that our free tennis programs will inspire more children to play tennis throughout their academic career,” Crook said.
EMS ISD appreciates Coach Crook and all our coaches across the district who make a difference in the lives of our young student athletes. We are incredibly #emsproud!
