Two EMS educators named finalists for H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards
On Thursday, February 16, two EMS ISD educators were surprised on their campuses with the news that they have been named finalists in the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards Program. The largest monetary awards program for educators in Texas, the H-E-B Awards spotlight best practices and celebrate the passion and creativity of Texas educators.
Anthe Anagnostis, Principal of Creekview Middle School, is a finalist in the category of secondary principals. One of only five finalists in her category across the state, "Mrs. A" was surprised with the news at a special assembly in her honor. Representatives from H-E-B presented her with a $1,000 monetary gift and a $2,500 donation for the school as students, staff, and district leaders cheered during the assembly. Mrs. A contributed her success to the strong support of the Creekview students, staff, and families.
Following the announcement at Creekview, the H-E-B awards team traveled to Chisholm Trail HS to surprise Allissa Clark, Life Skills teacher, in her classroom with balloons, cake, flowers, and the news that she is one of five state finalists in the rising star category for secondary school educators. Clark also received a $1,000 monetary gift and CTHS received a $1,000 donation. She contributed her success to her students and the support of her colleagues.
"We are excited to have two of our amazing educators recognized through the H-E-B awards program," said Dr. Linda Parker, Deputy Superintendent. "Mrs. A and Ms. Clark are honored as some of the best educators in Texas and we are proud to have them right here in EMS ISD. They are truly deserving and represent the quality of our teachers and campus leadership all across our district. Congratulations!"
All finalists are invited to Austin on May 6-7 to compete on a statewide level for larger cash prizes totaling $430,000.
H-E-B launched the Excellence in Education Awards Program in cooperation with the Texas Association of School Administrators in 2002 as a positive way to support public education in Texas. Each year, H-E-B asks customers, employees and community members to nominate teachers, principals, districts, early childhood facilities, and school boards in Texas.
