_Posted by Lori Wallis on 10/2/2011 3:00:00 PMWCE Reading LodgeDuring the summer of 2011, parent and staff volunteers joined forces to build a unique reading space for WCES students. With the leadership of Dad's Club chairman Patrick Farr, the lodge went from a mere vision to a reality. Willow Creek Wolverines can now curl up and read in front of the "fire" on a comfy chair in their library. The lodge, constructed of real stone and complete with a pretend fireplace, provides a very inviting place for students to read, or listen to stories.Lori Wallis, Willow Creek librarian, wanted to create an environment within the library to encourage reading. To coordinate with the natural habitat of the school's mascot, the wolverine, she had the idea to build a rustic environment. "Knowing the wolverine habitat is in the northwest woodland area, I thought, I need a lodge," said Wallis.
Willow Creek opened in August of 2010 and for the first year, Wallis' idea was just a dream. However, thanks to the help of a local architect, the community, the PTA, and the Willow Creek dad's club, the reading lodge was built over the summer and now provides that great reading environment Wallis wanted. The lodge is made even cozier by the addition of murals painted by Willow Creek art teacher, Amanda Eck.
The Willow Creek Reading Lodge helps promote reading and literacy in the school by providing a special place for all to enjoy. Stop by today to visit the wonderful Willow Creek Reading Lodge. You might even find a good book to read or share with a student while you are there.A special thank you goes out to all the supporters:
