The Golden Rule (2007) by Ilene Cooper (This book is used in every classroom at Northbrook Elementary to highlight our Northbrook values of Compassion, Respect, Excellence, Service, and Teamwork. Remember to treat everyone the way we want to be treated can really change the way a campus operates.)

The Kissing Hand (1993) by Audrey Penn (A young racoon must deal with going to school for the first time and leaving Mom behind. Mom shows him a special trick that helps him get through his night at school until he can see her again.)

Zero (2010) by Katherine Otoshi (Using numbers, this author cleverly points out how comparing ourselves makes us feel terrible, and if we can understand and accept how amazing we are, we can do more than we ever dreamed!)

The 7 Habits of Happy Kids (2008) by Sean Covey (This children's book uses various characters to show just how different habits and character traits can make life within a family or community work well.)

    Parent Book Lists

Parenting with Love and Logic  (2006) by Foster Cline and Jim Fay (This book gives practical advice and real life stories to show examples of how using lots of love and logic in parenting can help put the responsibility for behavior back on the child and helps the child learn valuable life lessons through logical consequences. It is extremely helpful for both the new parent and the veteran.)

5 Love Languages of Children (2012) by Gary Chapman (This book is a spin off from The 5 Love Languages. As applied to children, communicating love to a child is best done in a way the child can understand and receive. Sometimes when we are trying our hardest to align with our children and help them, they don't hear our hearts or understand our intentions. This book helps parents understand some really great approaches in letting our children know how much we love them and then they understand where we are coming from.)
