This is Coach Barber’s 4th season as Head Swim Coach of both the boys and girls teams at Saginaw High School. Over the last four years Barber has coached 8 athletes through to compete in post-season individual events at Regionals.
Barber is passionate about swimming, a sport she hascompeted in since 1998. She swam and played water polo for intramural groups at the University of North Texas, and as an adult has practiced with the U.S. Masters Swim Team to continue to hone her technique.
Coach Barber has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from UNT and also teaches the AP Capstone courses at Saginaw High School. She is married to her other half, Troy, and they have two daughters -- one a Rough Rider swimmer herself, the other a Prairie Vista Coyote.
Barber’s Coaching Philosophy
Swimming is a beautiful sport, because although we race other athletes, it is best when we focus on competing against our own personal best times. This sport allows athletes to quantitatively see themselves improve as they workhard throughout the season and off season. They will feel successful, which will make them hungry for more, which will make them work harder, which begins a cycle of success. This cycle of success will follow you in life well beyond swimming. We will be intentional athletes who track and log our nutrition, workouts, and sleep habits, and who practice time management and organizational skills in order to minimize unnecessary stress.
