How to Become an Athlete

EMS ISD TrailBlazers Athlete Participation
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friends with their families, other athletes and the community.
Eligibility
To be eligible to participate athletes must be:
- Age 8+ to practice and compete in local and area competitions
- Age 12+ must qualify at area to compete in state competitions
Athletes must have completed all required Medical and Registration Forms before they are able to participate.
*The medical release is good for 3 years and then must be renewed.
Practices
Practices are in the afternoon/evening hours, outside of school hours.
Track and Field practices are at Marine Creek Middle School.
Parents are required to be at practices. Practice schedules come out a month before the sport begins.
