Despite having a $32.7 billion surplus, the Texas Legislature did not increase funding for public schools during this last legislative session. At the same time, they put in new safety requirements without providing adequate funding to implement them. As a result, EMS ISD, like many public schools across the state, is facing a deficit budget.

Although growth is not happening yet at the rate originally projected, EMS ISD continues to add hundreds of new students every year.

The district is doing everything within its power to avoid budget cuts that impact students. Budget cuts, positions reassignments and hiring freezes began at the top first, impacting the central administration.
