Student Attendance = Student Success

Student Attendance with parents hugging graduate

The foundation of student success is excellent attendance. EMS ISD wants to partner with all parents to ensure students attend regularly and to address any issues that impact attendance.

GOAL: 100% ATTENDENCE

  • School attendance is a strong predictor of high school graduation.
  • 87% of high school students who miss 7 or fewer days of school per year graduated on time.
  • Students with good attendance do better in school, have more friends, like school and are more likely to graduate.
  • Even in Pre-K and Kindergarten, missing two days a month can impact a child's learning, social development and take them off-track for developing good attendance habits.

What parents can do

  • Send your child to school every day on time, starting in Pre-K.
  • Don't let your child miss school without a valid reason. Avoid medical appointments during the school day.
  • Create routines and stick to them. Make sure your child goes to bed early so that he/she will be ready to learn. Gather school clothes and supplies the night before in order to be prepared for school the next day.
  • Plan family vacations on non-school days.
  • Create back-up plans for getting to and from school.
  • Maintain a positive attitude about school and attendance. Stay informed and a part of your student's school experience. You're an important member of their academic team.
