Students from Saginaw HS launch disaster relief efforts to help tornado survivors
Four years ago, as Highland Middle School sixth graders, a group of EMS ISD students made a pact to make a difference within the local DFW community. Student Ryan Almusawi and friends started "Charitable Crusaders" to help area families in need.
Currently going by the name "Hearts as Big as Texas", the group of Saginaw High School sophomores donated their time on Saturday, January 16, picking up debris at a Garland area RV park and distributing aid to those who remain in need after the recent EF4 tornado.
Local news channel NBC5 highlighted the group's efforts during a recent broadcast. Several of the students were interviewed for the segment, and each expressed his/her dedication to helping those impacted by the natural disaster. To watch the full news segment, visit NBCDFW.com.
