EMS ISD Gymnasts Shine at State Championship
Student-athletes across the district finish the season with top scores, standout performances, and historic milestones
EMS ISD student-athletes flipped, vaulted, and tumbled their way to top-tier performances at the 2025 Texas State Gymnastics Championships, hosted by Permian High School in Odessa. Several high school gymnastics teams from across the district posted season-high scores, earned individual accolades, and made EMS ISD history.
Saginaw Boys Secure Silver Medal
The Saginaw High School boys’ gymnastics team battled fiercely through both days of competition, finishing with a two-day total score of 337.15 to earn second place overall. Day one ended with the Rough Riders leading the field, fueled by standout performances like junior Lucas Guhl’s perfect 10.0 on the high bar.
The team remained competitive on day two, with athletes Connor Womack, Aston Carrasco, Liam Ryniker, Evan Croft, and Adam Stack all contributing key routines across the floor, pommel horse, rings, and vault events.
“These athletes demonstrated skill, depth, and determination throughout the competition,” said Head Coach Eric Briley. “It was a strong team performance, and we’re proud of their effort.”
Lady Rough Riders Tie School Record
The Saginaw girls’ team finished in eighth place overall—matching their best finish in school history—with a two-day score of 222.350, including a season-high optional score of 109.05. The team improved its standing from ninth to eighth on the final day, with several gymnasts placing in the top 20 on individual events.
Seniors Chelsie Jefferson and Eva Goode were named to the Team Texas Senior National Team and will represent the state at a national meet in Florida, May 16-17.
“These girls fought through a lot this season and ended on a high note,” said Head Coach Bethany Valenga.
Boswell Girls Land in Top 10, Coach Earns State Honors
The Lady Pioneers from Boswell High School placed 10th overall with a team score of 221.077. McKinley Camacho led the way with impressive individual finishes, including ninth in the All-Around, 11th on Floor, 12th on Vault, and 18th on Bars.
Head Coach Candice Vincent was honored with two major awards: 2025 Texas High School Gymnastics Coaches Association Women’s Coach of the Year and 2025 Texas Gymnastics Judges Association High School Coach of the Year.
Chisholm Trail Boys Set Program Best
Chisholm Trail High School’s boys’ team turned in its strongest performance of the season at the state meet, finishing 11th overall with a combined score of 297.65. The Rangers achieved their highest daily totals across both compulsory and optional routines, signaling major growth for the program.
Individually, Marshall Osman placed 15th on Pommel Horse, 26th on Parallel Bars, and 21st in the All-Around competition. Dominik Galicia added strong contributions with a 9.95 in compulsory, 12th on the Horizontal Bar, and 25th in the All-Around.
“We are so proud of these athletes and all they have accomplished this season,” said Coach Katie Haseman. “This meet has set the tone for where we’re headed.”
Eagle Mountain’s First-Ever State Competitor Makes His Mark
Eagle Mountain High School celebrated a breakthrough moment as sophomore Evan Janik became the school’s first gymnast to qualify for the state championship. Representing his campus solo, Janik competed in the floor event and scored an 8.6 on day one, followed by an even stronger 9.0 on day two after sticking every landing.
Janik’s debut appearance on the state stage earned him respect from competitors and coaches alike, while inspiring future athletes at Eagle Mountain to pursue gymnastics at the highest level.
“This was a proud moment for our school,” said coaches. “Evan showed what it means to compete with courage, consistency, and pride.”
