Eagle Mountain Elementary student named finalist in Red Steagall Youth Poetry Contest

Eagle Mountain Elementary fifth-grader Ella Van De Kieft was a finalist in the 28th Annual Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering Children's Poetry Contest.

After submitting their poems, finalist were notified and required to recite their poem by memory on the weekend of October 26-28 at The Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering in the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District.

Van De Kieft's poem, "The Cowboy and the Cacti," was selected to be among the top 10 finalists in her division out of hundreds of entries from 22 surrounding counties. Competitors' poetry had to reflect the great "Western Way of Life."

She was also a finalist in the contest last year for her poem, “Horses.”
