Chisholm Trail High School teacher receives Excellent Educator Award from NBC 5 and Southern Methodist University

Through the Excellent Educator Series, Southern Methodist University and NBC 5 honor education professionals in North Texas who go above and beyond. Chisholm Trail High School AVID teacher Carol Hatten was selected as the Excellent Educator for November.

Hatten was nominated by a 2016 Chisholm Trail HS graduate and former AVID student, Nadia Estrada. Estrada credits Hatten with the encouragement needed to now maintain working full time while also attending college. Walter Berringer, CTHS principal, agrees, "For someone that has already graduated and transitioned to the next piece in their life to say those kind things, I think it speaks to the character that is Carol Hatten."

Dr. K.C. Mmeje, Vice President for Student Affairs at SMU, visited Hatten's classroom to award a $1,000 check for the school.
