District communications expand with text message emergency alerts
EMS ISD Communications is pleased to bring you a new service to help us communicate important information during emergencies and severe or inclement weather events. As part of our districtwide safety and security program, EMS ISD is adding SMS text message alerts to our district communications services. Text messaging will be used to inform parents, students and staff of weather-related closings or delays, emergency response situations, and important instructions in the event of a security alert.
Here’s some important “need to knows” about receiving text messages from EMS ISD:
- This service is provided through SchoolMessenger, which the district has used for several years to send automated phone and email notifications.
- To begin receiving texts from EMS ISD, you first must indicate your willingness to receive text messages to your phone. This is to comply with wireless carrier requirements and protect you against unsolicited text messages.
- During the week of December 3-7, all parents/guardians and EMS ISD employees who have a cell phone number on file in Skyward will receive a text message from SchoolMessenger asking you to “opt in” to receive information from the district via our SMS text messaging service.
- The text will come from our "short code" 67587, and will ask you to reply “Y” to subscribe or “STOP” to cancel.
- We encourage you to reply with “Y” or “Yes” when you receive the verification text to ensure you receive important messages from EMS ISD.
If you do not wish to receive emergency notification text messages from EMS ISD, you do not need to respond. Additionally, if you opt-in, but later decide to opt-out, simply send “STOP” to 67587. You may also reply “STOP” to any message from EMS ISD.
Although neither EMS ISD nor SchoolMessenger charge for this service, regular messaging charges from your cellular carrier may apply. Our organization does not reimburse for any charges associated with sending or receiving text messages. To opt out at any time, text STOP to 67587.
We are excited to offer this additional service to help keep you informed with timely and relevant information on your mobile devices. We encourage you to watch for the introductory message and opt in!
