EMS ISD Administration is pleased to announce that Danny Knowles, current principal of Ed Willkie Middle School, has been selected to serve as principal of Marine Creek Middle School, which opens in August 2019.
Knowles joined EMS ISD in 2009 as part of the inaugural teaching staff that opened EWMS. He taught 8th grade English and Language Arts, Communications and AVID, then served as assistant principal before being named principal in 2016. His entire 14 years in education has been focused at the intermediate and middle school level. He has a strong background in secondary education, at-risk and behavioral intervention, Restorative Practices, and leadership services. He is a proud graduate of Tarleton State University, where he is currently working on his doctorate degree in Educational Leadership.
While the opportunity to open the district's sixth middle school is exciting, Knowles said the decision was bittersweet for him.
"There’s a huge part of me that is sad to be leaving a campus community where I have been a proud Willkie Badger for 10 years," he said. "I will miss seeing our EWMS students and interacting with them every day. I will greatly miss serving alongside our amazing teachers and staff, who make me a better educator and leader. In addition, I will miss the support and care of our parents and families who make Ed Willkie Middle such a special place.
"The other part of me is excited for the opportunity to open a new campus within our same high school feeder area," he continued. "I look forward to meeting the students who will join me there and to work alongside them, and the staff and parents, to build a culture and climate that prepares students for any opportunity they choose to pursue in life."
Knowles will continue to serve at EWMS until the next principal is named. District leaders are committed to conducting a thorough search for the next principal at Willkie, and Knowles will work closely with the new campus administration to assist with the transition in leadership.
