Each year, the Governor and the Texas Association of School Boards designate January as School Board Recognition Month. This year’s theme is “Planting Seeds of Success.”
As part of this recognition in EMS ISD, each school adopts a Board member to whom they show appreciation throughout the year. Board members are invited to campus events and programs, and are celebrated in January with campus-made posters, cards, and trinkets of thanks for their commitment to EMS ISD students, employees, and community.
EMS ISD Board members serve a critical role in the advancement of our district:
- They are responsible for ensuring teacher pay remains competitive so we attract and retain top-quality educators.
- They have provided new facilities and renovated existing facilities to ensure students have environments equipped to support learning.
- They have listened to issues raised by parents, teachers, students, and administrators and they use their best judgment to resolve these issues in the best interest of the student and the district.
- They are responsible for an annual general operating budget of $176 million, more than 20,000 students, nearly 2,500 employees, and 26 school campuses.
- During the 2018 calendar year, they sought out and participated in a combined total of more than 110 hours of professional development – almost three times the required amount – to better equip themselves to meet the challenges of their elected roles.

We thank these community volunteers for their commitment and contributions to our public schools. Thank you for planting seeds of success!
