Two teams from Willow Creek Elementary and Remington Point Elementary competed at the Destination Imagination State Tournament in Corpus Christi on March 23. The Willow Creek team scored the highest Instant Challenge score in their challenge category.

Destination Imagination is an educational problem-solving organization that strives to promote creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. The tournament consisted of two parts – a Team Challenge and an Instant Challenge. In the Team Challenge, teams chose from one of six categories and then worked on it for months to develop a solution, which they presented at the tournament. In the Instant Challenge, teams walked in and were given a surprise challenge, which they had to solve using team work and creativity under strict time limits.

"This is an amazing accomplishment," said Shawna Bunyard, Destination Imagination District Coordinator. "Both teams made EMS proud!"

EMS ISD had 17 teams compete at the Regional Tournament on February 23. Willow Creek's Grapefruit Grande and Remington Point's Sparkle Unicorns each were awarded second place, which qualified them for State. Parkview Elementary's Black Rhino Builders received medals for third place and Dozier Elementary's Unpredictable Unicorns earned medals for their tie for fifth place.

"I am blown away by our Destination Imagination competitions," Bunyard said. "They all did an awesome job and have learned so much. They have created memories and skills that they will carry on throughout their lives."
