EMS ISD celebrates National Merit Scholarship Finalist
EMS ISD is proud to recognize Saginaw High School senior Stephen Le for being named a 2019 National Merit Scholar Finalist. He was honored during the March 2019 Board of Education meeting and supported at the recognition by his family and Principal Karen Pressley, pictured above.
Steven participates on the SHS math, science, and computer science UIL teams. He is ranked number three in his graduating class and has made the Dean’s list at Tarrant Country College where he currently has 30 college credit hours. After graduation, Steven will attend Rice University on a full scholarship. He plans on majoring in chemical and biomolecular engineering and will conduct undergraduate research in the production of proteins and gene editing.
The National Merit Commended Scholarship program recognizes students for outstanding academic promise based on their scores and demonstrated ability on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which is typically taken during a student’s junior year of high school. Semifinalists have an opportunity to continue in competition for National Merit Scholarships that will be offered in the spring.
National Merit Scholarship winners are selected from the group of Finalists based on their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in college. National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in April 2019 through July 2019.
