Familiar face to lead Northbrook Elementary

portrait of Maggie Highlen, newly named principal of Northbrook Elementary Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD is pleased to announce that Maggie Highlen, currently serving as Assistant Principal for Northbrook Elementary, has been named the new Principal beginning with the 2019-2020 school year. She will take over for Gina Mayfield, who announced her retirement earlier this year.

Highlen has more than 28 years of experience serving students in Texas public schools. She got her start as a bilingual reading specialist and special education teacher in Grand Prairie ISD and later served as Director of Language Acquisition Programs and Academic Coordinator in Weatherford ISD. In 2008, she joined the EMS ISD family as Northbrook's Assistant Principal. 

"Northbrook Elementary will continue to thrive under the leadership of Maggie Highlen," said Lisa Dunn, Executive Director of Elementary Services. "As the assistant principal of the campus for 11 years, she brings a wealth of knowledge about the Blazers and their focus on student achievement."

Highlen earned her undergraduate degree at Texas Woman's University and a master of bilingual education degree at Texas Wesleyan University.

Highlen has been married to her husband, Keith, for 27 years. They have two children and one granddaughter. In addition to spending time with family, she enjoys reading, gardening, and traveling with her husband in their RV.

Highlen will continue working closely with campus and district leaders to ensure a smooth transition to the Principal role.
