Each year, the Governor and the Texas Association of School Boards designate January as School Board Recognition Month. This year’s theme is “Launching the Next Generation.”

As part of this recognition in EMS ISD, each school adopts a Board member to whom they show appreciation throughout the year. Board members are invited to campus events and programs, and are celebrated in January with campus-made posters, cards, and trinkets of thanks for their commitment to EMS ISD students, employees, and community.

EMS ISD Board members serve a critical role in the advancement of our district:

  • They are responsible for ensuring teacher pay remains competitive so we attract and retain top-quality educators.
  • They provide new facilities and renovated existing facilities to ensure students have environments equipped to support learning.
  • They listen to issues raised by parents, teachers, students, and administrators and they use their best judgment to resolve these issues in the best interest of the student and the district.
  • They are responsible for an annual general operating budget of $185 million, more than 21,000 students, nearly 2,800 employees, and 27 school campuses.
  • During the 2019 calendar year, they sought out and participated in a combined total of more than 138 hours of professional development – almost three times the required amount – to better equip themselves to meet the challenges of their elected roles.

"Our EMS ISD Trustees, both individually and collectively, are committed to children and believe that all children can be successful learners," said Dr. Jim F. Chadwell, Superintendent. "They take their role as community ambassadors to heart, and they work closely with parents, staff, and administration to create the educational vision our community desires and expects for our students. I am proud to work with each of our Board members and appreciate their commitment and dedication to the families of EMS ISD."

We thank these community volunteers for their commitment and contributions to our public schools. Thank you for launching the next generation!
