Effie Center After Hours program expands to Chisholm Trail HS
The Effie Center After Hours program has expanded to Chisholm Trail High School and now covers all three comprehensive high schools in EMS ISD. The program provides teens with a free and safe place to hang out and connect with friends after school thanks to an ongoing partnership with the Effie Center.
Tuesday, January 28, was the After Hours kick-off day at Chisholm Trail and will continue every Tuesday in the Chisholm Trail HS cafeteria from 4:20-6 pm.
Students who attend the program will enjoy supervised, unstructured “down” time with options to participate in recreational activities or work on homework and study with other students. Snacks are provided each day the Center is open.
Indoor and outdoor activities will also be offered, along with occasional seminars on obtaining a job and applying for college. Community and parent volunteers serve as mentors and encouragers to students who attend the program. Alec Jacks is the Chisholm Trail site director.
"After Hours provides a time and place where all students are welcome and accepted," said Steve Griffin, Effie Center Chairman Board of Directors. "The After Hours program in EMS ISD now covers all three high schools; Boswell, Chisholm Trail, and Saginaw, giving more than 6,000 high school students the opportunity to participate. We are thankful to the schools, the district, and the principals for helping make this happen to benefit teens in our community."
Boswell High School has After Hours Monday-Thursday at the Effie Center across the street from Boswell and Saginaw High School has After Hours every Wednesday in the Saginaw HS cafeteria, both from 4:20-6 pm.
Additional Effie Programs
The Effie Center's annual Fix My Ride event will be on April 19, 2020. The event is designed to assist single parents, the unemployed and under-employed, as well as those who are not currently able to afford minor vehicle repairs and maintenance. For more information on Fix My Ride, visit www.effiecenter.org/fixmyride.
The Center also participates in crisis assistance for families with acute needs. Counselors from across the district work with the Center to provide emergency funds and resources to EMS ISD students and families in times of crisis.
Because of the Effie Center's donors throughout the year, they can provide snacks for Effie After Hours, hold their Fix My Ride event, and help provide financial aid to families in times of crisis. If you are interested in supporting through donations, please visit www.effiecenter.org/donations.
