EMS ISD Earns State’s Highest Fiscal Accountability Rating
EMS ISD is pleased to announce that the district has received a rating of “A” for “Superior Achievement” under Texas’ School FIRST financial accountability rating system. The Superior Achievement rating is the state’s highest, demonstrating the quality of financial management and reporting system.
This is the 17th year of School FIRST (Financial Accountability Rating System of Texas) and the 16th year EMS ISD has earned the highest rating possible.
“We are very pleased to earn this rating for our district and community,” said Chief Financial Officer Robb Welch. “The Superior Achievement rating shows that our district is making the most of our taxpayers’ dollars by focusing on student learning while also being accountable with cost-effective and efficient practices.”
The School FIRST accountability system was developed for Texas school districts by the Texas Education Agency in response to state legislation. The primary goal of School FIRST is to achieve quality performance in the management of school districts’ financial resources, a goal made more challenging due to the complexity of accounting associated with the state school finance system.
All school districts and charters are required to report information and financial accountability ratings to parents and taxpayers. In addition, districts and charters must host a public discussion or hearing regarding its financial report. EMS ISD held a hearing regarding the district’s Superior (A) FIRST rating during the regularly scheduled board meeting on Monday, November 16, 2020.
