Internet Service Discount for Qualifying Families
The Federal Communications Commission has launched a temporary program to help families and households struggling to afford Internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Emergency Broadband Benefit provides a discount of up to $50 per month toward broadband service for eligible households. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers.
If your child qualifies for free or reduced-price school meals, you qualify for Emergency Broadband Benefit. You must fill out the Free and Reduced Meal Form to become eligible for the benefits.
STEP 1: First, visit the district’s Child Nutrition website to fill out the form electronically or for instructions on how to pick up a paper application.
STEP 2: Next, eligible households should enroll for the Emergency Broadband Benefit through a participating broadband provider or directly with the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) using an online or mail in application.
Learn more about the benefit, including eligibility and enrollment information, by visiting www.fcc.gov/broadbandbenefit, or by calling 833-511-0311.
Device Insurance
Parents have the opportunity to purchase insurance for devices checked out to students for less than $40 per year through Securrannty. The insurance offers a $0 deductible, or out-of-pocket cost, if the device is lost, stolen or damaged. Insurance for iPads cost $31.95 and laptops cost $34.95.
Policies must be purchased within 30 days of the device being issued or before it is damaged. You may purchase insurance 30 days after the device is issued to your child, however, you will be asked for proof the device is fully functional and working immediately after purchase.
