The future legacy of Eagle Mountain High School received its noble beginnings Monday night with the approval of the school mascot, the Knights.

Excitement is building for the addition of the district’s fourth comprehensive high school. Site work is underway following the official groundbreaking ceremony on April 19, 2022, with the campus set to open in August 2024. While construction lays the physical foundations for the 500,000-square-foot learning facility, developments such as school colors, mascot, and logo serve as the basis for building strong school culture and traditions that will serve many generations to come.

“We are pleased to see the identity of Eagle Mountain High School start to come to life,” said Dr. Jim F. Chadwell, Superintendent. “We went through a lengthy and thorough process to find a mascot that resonated with students and was something they would be proud to represent. We welcome the Knights to the EMS ISD family and look forward to supporting them in our network of sister schools.”

Eagle Mountain HS, approved by voters in the 2017 bond, will open with three grade levels: freshmen, sophomores and juniors. This will allow students to compete in both varsity and junior varsity UIL events (academic, athletic and fine arts) in the school’s first year of operation. The first graduating class will be in 2026.

The process to identify a mascot included extensive research and field testing of several options for consideration. Input from student focus groups as well as informal feedback received by the district was received and reviewed. District tradition and history also were considered, as was longevity of branding and various opportunities for logo use. Through this process, the Knights rose to the top with the most widespread support. The school colors, previously approved, are black paired with Old Gold, which is a unifying color present across all EMS ISD high schools.

“We are excited about the EMHS Knights and we thank the students, staff, parents and community who shared their thoughts to help make this important decision for our new high school,” said Paige Ring, Board President. “Opening a new high school is a pivotal time for a community and we are off to a great start in setting strong foundations for the future of EMHS and EMS ISD.”

Eagle Mountain High School is located south of Bonds Ranch Road between the Chapel Hill and Bonds Ranch/Crestview residential developments. Information about proposed high school attendance zone adjustments is available on the district website. Visit the EMS ISD Bond Progress website for regular updates about current and future project updates.
