Temporary Free School Meal Program Discontinued

There is an important change parents need to be aware of when preparing for breakfast and lunch meals in the 2022-2023 school year. The federal government has ended the no cost meals for all students in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, and EMS ISD will return to using MySchoolBucks for parents to add money to their child’s lunch account.

If your student qualifies for free or reduced meals, they can still receive them this school year, but you will need to take action to ensure your child receives this benefit.

When the 2022-2023 application goes live on August 1, please complete it online at www.emsisd.com/freeandreduced.  Even if you completed the 2021-2022 application during the previous school year, you still need to complete the 2022-2023 application.

If you do not qualify for free or reduced meals, you may begin depositing money into student accounts at any time through MySchoolBucks to prepare for the cost of school lunches next year. Our meal prices for the 2022-2023 school year have not increased:

  • $2.55 for an Elementary lunch
  • $2.80 for a Secondary lunch
  • $1.35 for Elementary and Secondary breakfast

If your student has a negative meal account balance, we encourage you to pay it off as soon as possible and then begin depositing money into the account to prepare for the 2022-2023 school year.

Completing an application is the only way  to be considered for free or reduced meals. Please take action when the application goes live on August 1 by completing it at www.emsisd.com/freeandreduced
