The first day of classes for students for the 2023-2024 school year will be Monday, August 14, 2023, according to the 2023-2024 Instructional Calendar approved by the Board of Trustees during the January 23 regular meeting.
Student holidays for the 2023-2024 school year are Labor Day, Columbus Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Presidents Day. Next year's calendar also includes four days as holidays for students and professional learning for staff. District breaks reflect traditional community preferences of a week at Thanksgiving and Spring Break, and two weeks for Winter Break. The last day of school for students is Friday, May 24, 2024, and graduation is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024.
For teachers and staff, several dedicated days have been designated to support professional learning. August 1-11, 2023, will provide foundational professional training for all teachers as well as time for staff to complete the district's required online compliance training. Employees new to the district for 2023-2024 also will attend orientation on July 27 and July 31. Specific details regarding professional learning opportunities and options will be provided to employees.
The 2023-2024 school calendar meets all state-mandated requirements for the number of required minutes of instruction and staff work schedules. Two additional bad weather days have been designated on the calendar -- these days are Friday, March 29, 2024, and Friday, April 12, 2024.
The calendar was developed based on feedback from parents, staff and community members on the District Planning and Advisory Committee (DPAC) as well as teachers and administrators. The calendar presented meets state requirements and best supports the district's Aspire 2025 strategic plan. DPAC reviewed the calendar in November, it was presented to the Board of Education as a report only in December, and approved by Trustees in January.
