Boswell High School Names New Band Director

Smiling Man in a SuitEMS ISD is pleased to announce that Joshua Stover has been selected as the Boswell High School head band director. Stover comes to the Band of Gold from Birdville High School, where he serves as the associate band director.

Stover has broad experience in both high school and middle school band. His ensembles in the marching, jazz and concert arenas have consistently received Superior (1st division) ratings at contests. Additionally, his jazz ensembles have won their classifications at the TCU, UTA, and Tarleton State Jazz Festivals. His concert ensembles have received the Citation of Excellence and the GIFTS Performance of Distinction.

“We are very excited that Mr. Joshua Stover will be leading the Boswell High School Band Program as the head band director," said Shawn Bell, Director of Fine Arts. "Mr. Stover brings with him a history of band performance excellence and is constantly looking for new opportunities to broaden his student’s musical experience.”

Stover received his bachelor’s degree in music education from The University of Texas at Arlington and his Master of Music in Trombone Performance from the University of Michigan. He has a diverse performance background that includes appearances with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, the U.S. Navy Commodores, a premiere jazz band, and the New York Philharmonic Brass.

“I am looking forward to advancing the mission of the school district, honoring the incredible legacy of the school, and cultivating a positive culture of excellence, artistry and leadership in the Band of Gold,” Stover said.

Josh was born in England but grew up in Copperas Cove in Central Texas. His wife, Lisa, will begin teaching at High Country Elementary school next year.  They have a son, Eli, who will be entering second grade in August, and a daughter, Emily, who is 18 months old, along with a rescue dog named Chase. When not with the band, he enjoys going on family adventures, perfecting his barbecue skills, and eating ice cream every single day.

We are excited to welcome Stover to Boswell High School and look forward to the continued success of the award-winning Band of Gold under his leadership.
