Students Shine at State High School Art Event
EMS ISD students are among the best in the state in the visual arts.
Sixteen students from Boswell, Chisholm Trail and Saginaw High Schools recently showcased visual art pieces at the annual State Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) with several students earning State medals.
Boswell students Alana Lee, Paige Bohanon, Kya Rankin, Aaron Nava, Carlie Bleeker and Chisholm Trail students Lauren Baez and Randi Wilborn all earned State medals at this year’s competition.
“The VASE process is more in-depth than just creating a piece of artwork,” said Kristina Brown, an art teacher at Boswell. “Students must also include a written component detailing their creative processes and explaining their understanding of composition, artistic meaning and intentions for their artwork.”
The event began in February and students had to advance from both Regional and Area events to qualify for the State event. The State VASE Jurors selected artwork that represent the goals of VASE and exemplary examples of concept, technique, craftsmanship and creativity in student artwork.
In addition to the State Medals, Boswell High School student Alana Lee received a Photography Workshop Scholarship.
