EMS ISD Celebrates National Merit Commended Students

Two Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD students received commendation for being among the top scholars in the United States.

William Dunson, a senior at Boswell High School and Johnny Nguyen, a senior at Saginaw High School, were both named National Merit Commended Scholars for the 2023-2024 school year.

“I am thankful for this honor and proud of it,” Dunson said. “My first reaction, when [Nika] Davis [Boswell High School Principal] told me about this honor, was surprise. Then she conveyed how rare this award is and with everyone else’s reactions, I realized this was a very respectable achievement.”

Out of around 4.5 million eligible students who took the PSAT in their junior year of high school, only about 34,000 students across the country are named National Merit Commended students.

“I know it’s significant and I’m proud that I received it,” Nguyen said. “I was ecstatic when I found out. I always knew how much of a big deal it was to get recognized by National Merit, and now being the recipient of a commended letter has really surprised me.”

We are #EMSproud of Johnny Nguyen and William Dunson for being named National Merit Commended Scholars.
