The first day of classes for students in EMS ISD for the 2024-2025 school year will be Monday, August 12, 2024, according to the 2024-2025 Instructional Calendar approved by the Board of Trustees during the January 22 regular meeting.
Student holidays for the 2024-2025 school year are Labor Day, Columbus Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Presidents Day. Next year's calendar also includes four days as holidays for students and professional learning for staff. District breaks reflect traditional community preferences of a week at Thanksgiving and Spring Break, and two weeks for Winter Break. The last day of school for students is Friday, May 23, 2025, and graduation is scheduled for Saturday, May 24, 2025.
For teachers and staff, several dedicated days have been designated to support professional learning. July 31 - August 9, 2024, will provide foundational professional training for all teachers as well as time for staff to complete the district's required online compliance training. Employees new to the district for 2024-2025 will also attend orientation on July 29 and July 30. Specific details regarding professional learning opportunities and options will be provided to employees.
The 2024-2025 school calendar meets all state-mandated requirements for the number of required minutes of instruction and staff work schedules. Two additional bad weather days have been designated on the calendar -- these days are Friday, April 18, 2025, and Monday, April 21, 2025.
The calendar was developed based on feedback from parents, staff and community members on the District Planning and Advisory Committee (DPAC) as well as teachers and administrators. The calendar presented meets state requirements and best supports the district's Aspire 2025 strategic plan. DPAC reviewed the calendar in November, it was presented to the Board of Education as a report only in December, and approved by Trustees in January.
