Ken Cook Inducted Into THSCA Hall of Honor Class of2024
We are #EMSproud to announce that Coach Ken Cook has been officially inducted into the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) Hall of Honor Class of 2024. The ceremony took place on July 20, 2024, during the THSCA Coaching School and Convention in San Antonio. It was a well-deserved moment for Coach Cook, whose remarkable career has left a mark on Texas high school athletics.
Ken Cook's journey in sports began after graduating from Sanger High School in 1967. He earned his B.S. degree from North Texas State University in 1971 and later obtained his Master of Education degree in 1974. Cook's coaching career includes stops at Groesbeck Jr. High School and two years at Carroll Jr. and Carroll High School. Returning to his hometown of Sanger, Coach Cook assumed various roles at Sanger High School, including director and head coach for boys basketball, head baseball coach, varsity football assistant and the implementation and coaching of the golf program.
In 1979, Ken Cook embarked on a long and successful coaching career at Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas. Over the years, he served as the Athletic Coordinator, UIL Coordinator, head boys basketball coach and Interim Athletic Director during the 2002-03 academic year. His impact on Carroll High School is immeasurable, having coached successful teams in baseball, football and basketball, consistently achieving district, regional, and state championships.
Coach Cook's accolades include coaching four All-Star games and securing an impressive five state championships with three football, one baseball, and one basketball championship titles. His leadership extends beyond the field, as he served as the Past President of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) and was elected to the THSCA Board of Directors in the summer of 2000, contributing four years of dedicated service.
Even in retirement, Coach Cook's passion for athletics persisted. He took a position as the head girls basketball coach and girls athletic coordinator at Boswell High School. In 2015, he achieved a career-winning record of 728 wins over 40 years as a Head Basketball Coach. Cook continued to contribute to the sports community, taking on part-time positions with the Eagle Mountain Athletic Department as Athletic Facilities Coordinator and currently as an Assistant Athletic Director. In this role, he oversees all of the district’s football stadiums, handles UIL paperwork, addresses facilities issues and manages all playoff games.
Reflecting on his achievement, Cook said, "In my opinion, receiving this Hall of Honor award from the Texas High School Coaches Association is the greatest award a coach can receive. It's the epitome of all awards when you get recognized by your peers and especially the peers of such a great organization as THSCA! I am so honored to be nominated for such an award and excited to have been one of five coaches to receive such a recognition!""It was so much fun and exciting to celebrate with my family and friends. To have my entire family there in San Antonio to help me celebrate meant as much to me as getting the award itself. This award goes to not one person, but all my family, coaching staffs, administrators and a lot of great athletes! This is definitely a team award," Cook added.
Brent Barker, the EMS ISD Athletic Director, attended the induction. He remarked, “It was a true honor to witness Ken Cook's induction into the THSCA Hall of Honor. This recognition is well deserved, reflecting Coach Cook's outstanding success in coaching basketball, baseball and football throughout his career. Beyond his impressive professional achievements, Coach Cook is an even more exceptional person, father, husband and friend. Congratulations to Ken Cook on this tremendous accomplishment."
Beyond his coaching career, Ken Cook shares a fulfilling life with his wife Kerry and their accomplished children, Casey and Courtney, and four grandchildren. Kerry recently retired from EMS ISD this past school year after a teaching career of 43 years. In his spare time, Ken enjoys playing golf at the Resort at Eagle Mountain Golf Club.
