Chisholm Trail High School Principal Dr. Winston McCowan has been named the 2024-2025 Texas High School Principal of the Year by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP). This prestigious honor comes on the heels of his recognition as the Region 11 Outstanding High School Principal of the Year earlier this year. 
  
“It is truly an honor and a blessing to represent the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals and Region 11 as the high school principal of the year,” said Dr. McCowan. “Once again, this is a testament to the amazing people that I work with and for.” 
  
Dr. McCowan’s selection as the state's top high school principal is the result of his unwavering commitment to fostering a culture of excellence, equity, and opportunity at Chisholm Trail High School. Under his leadership, the school has seen remarkable growth in both academic achievement and student engagement, with a focus on empowering students, teachers, and the community. 
  
“This recognition is a direct result of the collective commitment and hard work of our entire Chisholm Trail High School community,” McCowan said. “It reflects a shared vision where every stakeholder—students, teachers, staff, and parents—works together to create an environment focused on excellence, equity, and opportunity.” 
  
Since taking the helm at Chisholm Trail High School in 2020, Dr. McCowan has led the school with a focus on inclusivity and connection. Programs like the Ranger Voice Committee, which amplifies student voices across campus life, and professional development initiatives for teachers have helped build a collaborative, supportive environment where all students can thrive. 
  
“What stands out most is the culture of connection and empowerment we have built on campus,” McCowan explained. “This recognition is not just about my leadership, but about how our school has come together to support and uplift every student. It demonstrates the power of a community that believes in each other’s potential and strives to bring out the best in everyone.”

Looking forward, Dr. McCowan is focused on expanding opportunities for student engagement, leadership, and innovation. “My primary goal is to deepen our commitment to student achievement and personal growth,” he said. “This includes expanding academic and extracurricular programs that meet the diverse interests and talents of our students, while ensuring equitable access to resources for all.” 
  
In addition to expanding student opportunities, Dr. McCowan is dedicated to investing in the growth of Chisholm Trail’s educators. “Our educators are the backbone of our success, and their growth directly impacts our students' outcomes,” he shared. By fostering collaboration and providing teachers with innovative tools and strategies, Dr. McCowan aims to continue raising the bar for both student and staff achievement. 
  
Dr. McCowan’s vision for the future extends beyond the classroom.
