EMS ISD Students Make Their Move at State Chess Tournaments

EMS ISD Students Shine at State Chess Tournaments 
Students from Willow Creek Elementary and Boswell High School showcased their strategic skills as they competed in their respective state chess tournaments. Facing top competition, these students demonstrated determination, problem-solving, and critical thinking—earning well-deserved recognition for their schools. 
  
Willow Creek Elementary Achievements 
Willow Creek’s chess team competed in the Texas Chess Association’s North Texas Scholastic Championship, held Feb. 28–March 2 in Lewisville, with an impressive showing: 
  
πŸ† 2nd place overall in the U500 team category 
πŸ† 4th place overall in the U900 team category 
⭐ Garret Vazquez - 8th place individual (U500) 
⭐ Axel Mendoza - 4th place individual (U900) 
  
Sponsors Myrna Torres and Ignacio Agosto Diaz praised the team’s dedication and commitment to improving their skills throughout the year. Their hard work and strategic preparation led to a strong showing at the tournament. 
  
Boswell High School’s Chess Success 
Boswell High School had two teams compete at their state tournament, both earning 7th place finishes in their respective divisions: 
  
πŸ† 7th place – Championship Division: John Maynor, Gabriel Borrero, and Brody Jones 
πŸ† 7th place – JV Division: Elijah Martinez, Jake Milligan, AJ Sander, and Caleb Miller 
  
These students demonstrated exceptional strategy and composure while competing against top-ranked opponents in Texas. Their performances reflect the dedication and effort they put into honing their skills throughout the season. 
  
These tournaments provided valuable opportunities for students to test their abilities, build friendships, and represent #EMSProud on a statewide stage.
