Comanche Springs Elementary Career Day Inspires Future Student Goals
Published on December 12, 2024
Offering students an engaging and hands-on glimpse into a variety of career paths, Comanche Springs Elementary School held their annual career day, featuring professionals from diverse fields around the EMS ISD area, allowing students to learn about different careers through interactive presentations and activities.
Representatives from Texas DPS demonstrated their specialized equipment and introduced students to a K-9 officer, while the Fort Worth Fire Department brought an engine and let students try on firefighting gear and use emergency medical tools. Raider Express showcased a truck, mounted officers introduced their horse, and Russell Feed brought a small pig and a rabbit. Other participants included a nurse teaching CPR, a police drone operator, the vice president of global agriculture for Frito Lay, Chick-fil-A with their famous Cow mascot, and local authors sharing their craft.
Students also had the opportunity to try karate in the gym, explore meteorology with a representatives from the national weather service, and hear about transportation and logistics careers.
In the spirit of exploration, students dressed as their dream professions, wearing costumes of police officers, firefighters, doctors, pilots, chefs, astronauts, soldiers, and more.
“Career Day gives my students an up-close view of different career paths and connects their learning to the real world,” said Kelly Taylor, counselor at Comanche Springs Elementary and the event organizer. “By exposing them to new interests, we ignite passions and open doors they may not have considered. I want my students to believe they can accomplish anything with hard work and perseverance.”
Students were equally enthusiastic about the experience. Fourth-grader Elaina Lin found the day inspiring, especially the presentations by authors. “I always wanted to write my own books, and after listening to them, I think I could write my own,” she said. “I love that our school holds Career Day because it shows us we can be many different things when we grow up.”
Her classmate Elizabeth Laffey echoed the sentiment. “My favorite thing is learning about all of the careers that people have,” she said. “I didn’t know you could write books as a job. I think we have amazing career choices ahead of us in this amazing world.”
The event aligns with EMS ISD’s strategic goal of providing personalized opportunities to prepare all students for college, career, or military readiness. By fostering curiosity and linking classroom learning to real-world situations, Career Day helps students dream big about their potential.
"I love hosting and organizing Career Day for my students. It is like Christmas morning on steroids. Their eyes are like flashy lights with all the excitement going on around them. Each speaker is a new package to open. My wish is for their eyes to continue to light up (as if they just saw Santa) with each new presenter," Taylor said. "It is simply magical when we can plant the seed early on and give them the skills to be lifelong learners. Curiosity creates careers."
We appreciate all of the professionals from around our #EMScommUNITY who take time to visit EMS ISD elementary schools to introduce students to new career choices.
