The official name of the $180,000 scholarship is the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps - Marine Option (NROTC) Scholarship and is one of only 400 awarded across the country.

“This is an opportunity for him to obtain the education of his dreams,” said Staff Sergeant Amos Talbot, United States Marine Corps, who presented the scholarship to Phillip during a surprise ceremony. “He was selected from a special group of students for this highly competitive scholarship. He is putting in the work now to make sure his future is beneficial.”

This marks the first time a Chisholm Trail High School student has been awarded this prestigious scholarship. He will spend time learning about the Navy and the Marine Corps during his first two summers in college, and during his third summer, Lasley will spend six weeks in Officer Candidates School in Quantico, VA.Family standing together with one member in marine corps uniform holding large symbolic check
