CTHS Students Shine at YMCA Youth and Government District Conference
Students from Boswell, Saginaw, Eagle Mountain, and Chisholm Trail high schools recently participated in the YMCA Youth and Government District Conference, where they demonstrated outstanding leadership and civic engagement. Several students earned top honors and qualified for the State Conference in Austin, Texas, where they will present their work at the Texas State Capitol.
Program Overview
The YMCA Youth and Government Program provides high school students with a hands-on experience in government, offering opportunities to participate in mock trials, legislative debates, and committee work. The program simulates the legislative and judicial processes, allowing students to draft bills, debate policies, and participate in courtroom simulations.
Boswell High School’s Strong Showing
Boswell’s delegation had an impressive conference, with multiple students earning awards. Elliott Walker received the Sue Six Award for Overall Distinguished Legislative Delegate, while Oliver Ososky and Ayden Sander earned Distinguished Legislative Delegate honors. Ar’Naiya Franklin and Cadence Wooten were recognized as the Distinguished Clerk Chair Team for their behind-the-scenes work in the legislative process. Additionally, Boswell’s Trial Court Team qualified for state by advancing to the County Court.
Saginaw High School Dominates Mock Trial
Saginaw High School’s mock trial teams made a remarkable impact, claiming the Top 4 Spots at the district competition and winning the District Championship. All five Saginaw teams advanced to the State competition, where they will compete at the Capitol. Their success reflects their hard work and dedication to mastering courtroom procedures.
Eagle Mountain High School’s Legislative Success
Eagle Mountain’s delegation, including Daniela I., Jovanni A., and Carson N., all had their bills successfully pass through committees, earning them spots at the State Conference. Carson N. also received the YMCA Distinguished Delegate award for his leadership and excellence. These students will present their bills at the Texas House floor in February.
Chisholm Trail High School Qualifies for State
All four students from Chisholm Trail High School—Weston Fleming, Kipper Swaim, Brady Escamilla, and Barrett Scott—qualified for the State Conference. Their achievement highlights their dedication and skill in both legislative and judicial areas.
Looking Ahead to State
As these talented students prepare for the State Conference in Austin, they continue to demonstrate the leadership and civic-mindedness that the YMCA Youth and Government program aims to foster. We wish them the best of luck as they represent EMS ISD at the Texas State Capitol in February.
Congratulations to all of our students for their outstanding performance and achievements at the district conference!
