As part of EMS ISD’s Aspire 2022 Strategic Plan, a committee of district stakeholders consisting of students, parents, educators, business leaders, and community members worked together to create a collective vision of the core competencies an EMS ISD student will possess upon graduation that are critical for life-long learning and future success as an adult.

"The work done by the committee is to be commended as the Profile of the EMS ISD Graduate aligns to our vision of our strategic plan and mission,” said Linda Parker, EMS ISD Deputy Superintendent. “The specificity of the traits gives direction to our curriculum as we work to ensure our graduates are ready for the future no matter their career path. With ever-changing global opportunities, we seek to have our graduates at the forefront of leadership and success."

The committee met on January 26 and February 9 at the Hollenstein Career and Technology Center to create the Profile of an EMS ISD Graduate. Parker and Dr. Ken Helvey, Partner of N2 Learning, facilitated the meetings.

The committee discussed and reflected on the critical skills and characteristics that a graduate should possess to be successful in the 21st Century. They decided on five core competencies­–the EMS ISD graduate will think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate, demonstrate career readiness, and contribute meaningfully to the community.

The Profile of an EMS ISD Graduate was approved by the Board of Education at the June board meeting.
