STAAR Testing
This week there will be Math STAAR testing on April 23rd and 24th. The campus will be closed on those two days. We ask that parents do not bring lunch on those days as most of our resources will be used to ensure we are keeping an appropriate testing environment and addressing any needs that arise. Thank you for your understanding.
Learning Corner (Reviewed)
There are several campus events that will take place at the end of the school year. Please review "Important Dates" to stay updated. As we wind down the school year, we ask that you remind your child to make good decisions throughout the day. Good decisions include getting to class on time, keeping their hands to themselves, being respectful to teachers/fellow students, and engaging fully in the lesson. Thank you for your partnership.
Reminders from previous emails
Nurse's Corner: Nurse Britt
This is a reminder to get your 7th grader vaccinated early before the busy back-to-school rush. State law requires one dose of the meningococcal conjugate (MCV4) vaccine and one dose of the tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine for all students entering 7th grade. Students will not be allowed to start the first day of 7th grade without the vaccines or exemption. If you have questions about vaccines, please consult your health care provider or local health department. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
Have a great day!
Nurse Britt
Military Thursdays
April is the month of the military child. Every Thursday, for the month of April, we ask students to join us in this recognition by wearing a purple shirt or a shirt that represents the military.
Food Pantry (Attachment 4.06.25)
Please see the attached April Food distribution calendar.
STAAR Test
The STAAR test will take place in the next couple of weeks. Our teachers have tutorials available and have begun reaching out to students and parents. Please take a look at our tutoring schedule and encourage your student to get additional help in areas where they struggle. If they don’t have at least an 85 average in a class, they should be encouraged to attend.
STAAR tested subjects
6th grade: Reading and Math
7th grade: Reading and Math
8th grade: Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies
MCMS Counselors Desk: Summer School (Reminder)
Hello, Mustang Parents!
If your student is in danger of failing two or more core classes at this time, you should have received a letter and a phone call before spring break with information on summer school (cost, times, etc.).
Which students must attend summer school? Students who do not pass at least three of the four core classes (ELA, Math, Science, and History) will attend summer school. Passing is considered a 70 overall, meaning all report card grades add up to at least a 70.
Please note: Not all students required to attend summer school will be notified at this time. If your child is passing at least three core classes now but fails to pass at least three overall by the end of the year, your child will need to attend summer school.
If you have questions, please contact your child’s counselor using the information below, and thank you all for your continued support of MCMS.
Sincerely, Andrea Smith (Last names A through L) asmith@ems-isd.net KK Seeburger (Last names M through Z) kseeburger@ems-isd.net
Learning Corner (Reminder)
Recently we had questions about our cell phone procedures. In an effort to make sure communication and expectations are clear, please view the information below.
-
Students are expected to power off devices and place them in their backpack before entering the building.
-
Students may get on their devices after-school once they exit the building or they arrive at their after-school destination (cafeteria waiting for busses, tutorials, etc.)
-
Students who are not following the campus cell phone policy above will be asked to turn over their device.
-
The first time a student turns over their device due to not following the policy, they will receive a warning, and parents will be required to pick up the device (office hours 7:45 am - 3:45 pm).
-
Parents will receive an email or a phone call (phone call - if it is picked up at the last period of the day) making them aware that their student's device has been picked up.
-
The second time and each subsequent time a device is picked up, parents will need to pick up the device and a $15 fee will be collected.
It is not our desire to confiscate cell phones. Please encourage your child to follow the cell phone expectations every day.
Lunch with your child
We love to have our parents visit during lunch and many students enjoy the treat of having food dropped off for lunch. As we continue through the school year, we ask that you please refrain from sending or bringing extra food intended for other students. Sharing food can pose potential allergy concerns and create a disruption in the cafeteria amongst students. Thank you for your understanding.
Tardies
Most students have done an excellent job of getting to class on time, but we have noticed an increase in the number of students who are tardy to class. Each week the Assistant Principals will run a tardy report and students who have an excessive amount of tardies will be assigned to after school detention (Mondays and Wednesdays). Please encourage your child to make sure that he/she gets to class on time.
SMART Tags (attachment in previous email)
Attention parents of bus riders, SMART Tags are here! SMART Tag is a system that tracks when each child gets on and off the bus as well as the bus location throughout the route. It helps students and bus drivers confirm each child is on the correct bus and dropped off at the correct location, and it provides parents peace of mind in knowing where their child is along the route and when they are expected to arrive at their destination. Through the SMART Tag mobile app, you will be able to receive notifications when your child boards or exits the bus, track the bus location, and view bus routes. Please read the attachment for additional information.
Football out front
Parents, please help us to remind students that they will no longer be able to play football outside in the front of the school. We have had several students get injured and the area in the front has too many things (large rocks, drainage holes, etc.) that increase the likelihood of injury. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Dress Code
Thank you for helping us to monitor the dress code. Overall, students are doing very well. As a reminder, shorts need to reach below the fingertip.
Uber Eats/Door Dash
Our front office will be unable to receive delivery orders unless a parent is dropping off the food. The front office will not receive deliveries from companies like Uber Eats/Door Dash. Parents, you are more than welcome to drop off food for your students. Please make sure you are aware of their lunch period.
RevTrack
Parents, we wanted to make you aware that we will be moving to an electronic form of payment. RevTrack is the company we will use to accept the electronic payments. Payments made to the front office (to retrieve cell phones, airpods, etc.) will be received electronically only.
