Hafley Development Center celebrated two decades of nurturing young learners with an anniversary event on Friday, May 16. Families past and present, community members, and special guests, including the family of the school’s namesake, Weldon Hafley, came together to honor the impact and history of the campus.
The event featured historical artifacts, photographs and a photo gallery of students through the years, fondly dubbed the “Eras Tour.” Outside, guests enjoyed games, cake, refreshments and the opportunity to reconnect with staff and one another.
“Celebrating this 20-year milestone is a special time to reflect on the growth of the early learning programs and all that we have achieved,” said Stacey DeHoyos, EMS ISD Director of PreK Services and the principal of Hafley Development Center. “The early learning programs have grown to include full-day programs across the district and added prekindergarten for eligible three-year-old children. Hafley DC has served as the heart of the early learning programs since 2005, and the central learning space for all early childhood teachers.”
Throughout the celebration, visitors were reminded of Hafley’s lasting influence as the first school experience for many families. The school’s legacy was further honored by the attendance of Weldon Hafley’s family, whose presence brought added meaning to the milestone.
“Having Weldon's family was more than just a show of support; it was a powerful reminder of the love, care and community that surround our program,” said DeHoyos. “Their presence made the moment even more meaningful as we celebrated the legacy of Mr. Hafley and his unwavering support for early childhood programs.”
DeHoyos attributes much of the campus’s success to the team of educators who have served since its founding.
“The people make Hafley special,” she said. “With a focus on early childhood development, our staff provides a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child is supported, valued and empowered to grow. Through intentional teaching, individualized support and a strong partnership with families, Hafley fosters a love of learning and builds the foundation for future success.”
As Hafley Development Center looks to the future, the 20th anniversary celebration stands as a meaningful reflection of its roots, its growth and the strong community it continues to serve.
