Statement of Non-Discrimination
EMS ISD prohibits discrimination, including harassment, against any student or employee on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, gender, national origin, age, disability, or any other basis prohibited by law in providing education services, activities, employment, and programs, including Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
In accordance with Title IX, EMS ISD does not and is required not to discriminate on the basis of sex in its educational programs or activities. The requirement not to discriminate extends to employment. As a school district serving students in kindergarten through grade 12, the district is not subject to provisions of Title IX Regulations (Subpart C) prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex in admissions and recruitment. However, the district does not discriminate on the basis of sex in admissions, transfer requests or to applicants for employment.
The district has designated and authorized the following employees as the Title IX Coordinator to address concerns or inquiries regarding discrimination on the basis of sex, including sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, or gender-based harassment:
· Employee Related - Dr. Maria Gamell, Executive Director of Human Resources, 1600 Mustang Rock Road, TX 76179, 817-232-0880. T9Coordinator@ems-isd.net.
· Student Related - Ms. Chandra Turrentine, Senior Director of Student Service, 1600 Mustang Rock Road, TX 76179, 817-232-0880. T9Coordinator@ems-isd.net.
Any individual may report discrimination, including sexual harassment, at any time, including during non-business hours, by mail, phone, email, or via Let’s Talk.
During district business hours, reports may also be made in person. Upon the district receiving notice or an allegation of sex-based harassment, the Title IX Coordinator will promptly respond in accordance with the process described in DIA and FFH (LEGAL, LOCAL, and Regulation).
To view an electronic copy of the District’s Title IX polices FFH (LEGAL) and (LOCAL) and DIA (LEGAL) and (LOCAL), please go to the Board of Education page and select the Board Policy tab. To obtain a copy of the District’s Title IX policies, including the grievance process that complies with 34 C.F.R. § 106.45(b) of the 2020 Title IX Regulations, please contact Dr. Maria Gamell or Ms. Chandra Turrentine at T9Coordinator@ems-isd.net.
Inquiries about the application of Title IX may be referred to the district’s Title IX Coordinator, to the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights of the Department of Education, or both.
Other federal laws that prohibit discrimination include Title VI, Section 504, the Age Discrimination Act, the Boy Scouts Act, and Title II.
The following district representatives have been designated to address other concerns or inquiries about other kinds of discrimination.
